Willem Dafoe is an American actor who is recognized for two of his best roles: as Elias in Oliver Stone's anti-war film 'Platoon' (1986) and as Max Schreck in the horror film 'Shadow of the Vampire' (2000), both of which earned him 'Academy Award' nominations. In 1982, he starred in the outlaw-biker-drama film 'The Loveless', and subsequently was typecast as a villain in more films such as 'Streets of Fire' (1984) and 'To Live and Die in L.A.' (1985). He thoroughly enjoyed his compassionate role in 'Platoon', and went on to portray diverse characters in successful films like 'The Last Temptation of Christ' (1988), 'Mississippi Burning' (1988), 'Born on the Fourth of July' (1989), 'The English Patient' (1996), and 'American Psycho' (2000).
The new millennium again saw him playing villainous characters in the superhero film 'Spider-Man' (2002) and the action film 'Once Upon a Time in Mexico' (2003). He also starred opposite Madonna in the erotic-drama 'Body of Evidence' (2000). His recent filmography includes movies like 'John Wick' (2014), 'The Fault in Our Stars' (2014), 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' (2014) and 'Finding Dory' (2016), as well as the European art-house films 'The Dust of Time' (2008) and 'Antichrist' (2009).
