American singer, actor, comedian and magician, Neil Patrick Harris is best known for his role in the comedy serial ‘Doogie Howser, M.D.’ (1989 – 1993) for which he won multiple awards. His performance in ‘Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog’ (2009) got him the Best Male Actor in a Comedy Web Series at the Streamy Awards. His films include ‘Clara’s Heart’ (1989) and ‘The Smurfs 2’ (2014). His major success came from his television appearances in ‘How I Met Your Mother’ (2005 - 2014), ‘Glee’ (2010) and ‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ (2015). He has repeatedly hosted various award ceremonies for which he has been recognised by several special awards.
Harris hosted the Oscars for the first time in 2015 and it turned out to be a bit of a fiasco as his jokes fell flat and the audience was not really impressed by his performance. It was not so much the way he presented it, but the material was just not good enough.
Harris is openly gay and lives a content life with his partner David Burtka, whom he is married to and has surrogate twins. He was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People and is the first openly gay person to host the Academy Awards.
