Jussie Smollett is an American actor, singer and photographer who rose to fame after appearing as Ricks in Ridley Scott's science fiction horror film 'Alien: Covenant' (2017), his top grossing film so far. He started his career as a child actor in the early 1990s with a list of movies, TV shows, and commercials including 'A Little Piece of Heaven' (1991), 'The Mighty Ducks' (1992), 'Alex Haley's Queen' (1993), 'North' (1994) and 'On Our Own' (1994-95).
As an adult, he resumed acting with a lead role in the LGBT-themed comedy-drama 'The Skinny' in 2012. Following a couple guest appearances in 'The Mindy Project' (2012) and 'Revenge' (2014), he earned widespread recognition for portraying gay musician Jamal Lyon, one of his best roles, in the Fox music-drama series 'Empire' in 2015. He has done short parts in a few films that were box-office failures, but his latest offering, 'Marshall' (2017) is all set to become one of his successful movies with overall positive reviews.
As a musician, he released his first EP album, 'The Poisoned Hearts Club', in 2012. He has wrote and performed many songs for the soundtrack albums of 'Empire', for which he has earned critical acclaim.
