Errol Flynn was an Australian actor whose artistic brilliance on screen is much talked about. Interestingly, Flynn never intended to become an actor. However, after watching Charles Chauvel’s ‘In the Wake of Bounty’, he became interested in acting.
Flynn made his debut with a small role in ‘The Case of the Curious Bride’. His breakthrough came with the Warner Bros most anticipated, big-budgeted swashbuckler film ‘Captain Blood’. The movie was a phenomenal hit, and launched Flynn’s career as a top-rated actor. He followed its success with several other hit films such as ‘The Charge of Light Brigade’, ‘Green Light’, ‘The Prince and the Pauper’, ‘Another Dawn’, ‘The Perfect Specimen’ and so on. The magnum opus of Flynn’s filmography came with a lead role in the 1938 fantasy film ‘The Adventures of Robin Hood’. The movie was highly successful and became the 6th top grosser of the year.
Flynn’s career surged further upwards as he starred in a number of hit films including ‘Virginia City’, ‘Desperate Journey’, ‘Gentlemen Jim’, ‘Edge of Darkness’ and so on. However, there were some Flynn films that failed to work such as ‘Lilacs in the Spring’, ‘Istanbul’ and ‘The Sun Also Rises’.
